    You guys are obviously very experienced pros at all facets of this. I think I’ll save my money on a soldering iron and find a pro like you guys or spend the money to buy the best cables I can afford. Making custom patch cables for the pedalboard is where these skills are really valuable. I got a renewed appreciation for your skills and experience from watching this video. Thanks, guys!!

    I suggest that the camera be zoomed in on the work being done and not a wide shot of the whole table. Also the tech should not be showing off how fast he can work; rather slow down and work to the camera. It is supposed to be an instructional video, after all.

    when you get to high pin count compact connectors like this, the pinout of your connector is dictated by the internal wind of the cable, as crossing over wires uses up valuable space inside the connector shell.

    I appreciate your reply. If you heat shrink only the barrel end, not the plug's body, you can still get the plug apart if need be by holding the barrel end stationary and turning the body. The heat shrink has less tendency to creep from cable movement if it's tightly shrunk to the barrel than if it's simply shrunk around the cable itself, especially if you use any kind of cable wrapping like TechFlex. And, it still gives cable rigidity. Just a thought.

  • @proaudiostash
    @proaudiostash 10 років тому

    What kind of knife do you use to cut the main jacket?

  • @guitartec
    @guitartec 10 років тому

    Why heat shrink under the barrel end? It does nothing. Heat shrink over the barrel end for extra strain relief, (especially if you use a TechFlex cover). We do.

    • @proaudiostash
      @proaudiostash 10 років тому

      Thanks for the comment. Having the heat shrink under the barrel does still provide rigidity to the cable but with the added bonus that if you need to change the connector or re solder in the future you don't have to cut away the heat shrink and it stays intact.

    it was a bad idea to make wide stereo sounding voice by inverting phase in one channel. this is very disturbing, and makes tutorial hard to watch. main vocal/lector should be always in center, and always mono compatible (without any phase issues). by the way, female connector have one pin shorter (drain/shield), so drain wire must be a 2-3 mm longer than hot and cold, so it isn't the same as male. it is good to put a thin heat shrink sleeve on drain wire, also wires must be placed as straight as it is possible to right pin, to prevent crosstalks (any crossing is not allowed)

    Thanx Guys! That video was very helpful! I'm going to be installing a Mogami W2490 Ultraflexible Miniature Microphone Cable into a spring-tensioned, articulating desk arm, and then soldering on the XLR connectors. I was unsure about which pins to use for each wire, and I'm a beginner at soldering. Seeing your soldering iron in a fixed, vertical position makes a lot of sense to me so I think I will try to emulate that technique! Thanks for making such an informative video!

    I have a couple Chatsworth 7ft. tall, 17in. wide 2-post RSU Server Racks set up and mounted in my den. The thing is: I do Not use these racks for what they were intended. I use them to hold and display McIntosh Stereo Tuners, Pre-Amplifiers, and Amplifiers. (not the ridiculously heavy ones; 7 McIntosh MC2105 Amplifiers at 65lbs./piece. Sure, I may get to the cables in the back easily; they are right there in the great room against an open wall. I just bought a couple sliding shelves to place a couple Laptops on. They will slide out 11in. so I may access the keyboard as it would normally be set towards the back of the rack. Questions I have for you folks that use these sliding shelves: What are they supposed to be used for? They really do Not slide out all that much. If most of the equipment in a Server Rack is bolted in and filling in the "U" s, almost touching each other, how could you get to any cables or wiring connected to anything on the sliding shelf from the front in the first place? There were 4,281 views of this video on 09 NOV 13, so someone must know about this stuff. I think they are neat shelves Just To Have because they "do" something! =^.^=
